9:00 Welcome from President Karen Hollon.
9:00 Update Capitol Renovation and Other Areas of the Capitol Complex
Presenter was Barry Greis, Statehouse Architect. Mr. Greis updated
attendees on the completion of the East and West wing. He talked about some of the
materials used in the renovation and the reintroduction of skylights into the Chambers. The
Docking tunnel has been reopened and currently 98 representatives have been moved to the
Docking building. The renovation will take 7 years to complete, at this time there
are 3 years left to go. As of today it is on schedule. He also told attendees
of the things they have uncovered during the renovation process such as a marble border
in the Governor Suite and historical papers found in the walls. He invites people
to come and take a tour of the Capitol.
9:20 Treasurer’s Office
Presenter was Lucinda Anstaett. She updated attendees
on bank closures and takeovers. She discussed changes in the FDIC insurance amounts,
they raised it to $250,000 until December 31, 2009 unless extended due to legislation. If
agencies are reaching that level they will need collateral. The treasurer’s
office doesn’t monitor the accounts for agencies but will be the custodian for
them. Tracy Barngrover at 785-296-4145 can help with custodians. She
also discussed communication with the treasurer’s office when money is drawn down
so it can be connected with the appropriate project. She suggests putting something
in the name to connect it with the agency. With the new FMS System receipts will
require more detail.
9:45 REMI Group
Presenter Hoyt Marquis, Craig Remington and Ran Garver. They
described that their work consolidates and eliminates service contracts. The company
will review your contracts and make recommendations on which contracts you may want to
eliminate. The agency decides what equipment they want covered. Their service
covers virtually all electronics not hardwired into a building or vehicle. With
their services the vendor only gets paid when they respond to fix equipment. Their
work can help an agency save 20-25% on expenditures.
