K0207958 Epidemiologist position in the Office of Health Promotions
Works under the general direction of the Tobacco Use Prevention Program Director and with the Senior Epidemiologist to conduct literature reviews, identify and analyze existing data sources, to assist in the design and implementation of new data collection strategies, and to analyze and interpret these data to measure the burden of tobacco use, tobacco-related diseases and injuries, and the health economics of tobacco in Kansas. Conduct evaluation of program efforts. Disseminates results and interpretations from research and data analysis through the development of reports, fact sheets, news releases, articles, material for the KDHE Tobacco Use Prevention Program web site, abstracts for presentations and posters at public health and scientific meetings, manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications, and other media. Provides consultation and technical expertise to officials of state and local government and non-governmental organizations regarding the use and interpretation of local, state, and national tobacco-related data and the science of tobacco epidemiology. Minimum Requirements:
MPH/MS with emphasis in epidemiology and comprehensive knowledge of epidemiologic and biostatistical concepts.
Note: Education and experience would determine placement at appropriate epidemiologist level and pay would be commensurate. Lower level requirements: Associate Epidemiologist: BS and entry level knowledge of epidemiology. Advanced Epidemiologist: MPH/MS and independent work experience as an epidemiologist.
Preferred Qualifications:
MPH/MS preferably in Epidemiology. Experience in epidemiologic work in detecting, overseeing and preventing chronic disease and loss of functional limitations. Knowledge of public health law and regulation principles. Ability to plan and conduct research/survey projects under direction of Director of Science and Surveillance. Ability to develop proposals for intervention. Ability to derive concepts of causality from results of epidemiological analyses. Experience in Scientific report writing, epidemiologic data analysis, proofreading, editing and attention to detail. Experience using SAS, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
