Job Description:

Veterans Preference¿ Eligible (VPE):

Formal military personnel that have been verified as ¿veteran¿ under K.S.A. 73-201 will receive an interview if they meet the minimum requirements of the class. The veterans¿ preference laws do not guarantee the veteran a job. Positions are filled as determine by the hiring manager as being the best qualified.

Job Description:

Employees in this class become certified Corrections Officers through completion of the required basic Corrections Officer training program and upon completion of training, perform full performance correctional work enforcing work enforcing designated laws, rules and regulations in a correctional facility.

Incumbents in this class are responsible for maintaining security in a corrections facility by supervising the conduct, work, discipline and recreation of inmates.

Incumbents in this class are certified Corrections Officers and exercise delegated statutory powers.

Key Requirements:

¿ You must meet the minimum requirements for the Corrections Officer I classification (See ¿Corrections Officer I¿ classifications)

¿ You must submit your complete application and all supporting documents by the closing date of the announcement (See ¿How to Apply¿ section)

¿ You will be subject to a background/suitability investigation/determination

¿ If not currently employed by the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) you will be required to pass a drug screen and a TB screening.

¿ If not currently a Corrections Officer with the KDOC you will be required to complete a physical examination.

¿ Complete scheduled tour of Topeka Correctional Facility.

Minimum Requirements Required: Candidates must be at least 19 years of age at the time of appointment; high school diploma or equivalent; valid driver's license; free of felony conviction(s); free of any felony or misdemeanor domestic violence crime as set forth in 18 U.S.C. § 922 (d) (9) and (g) (9). Candidates must pass the KDOC Corrections Officer test with a 70% and above, have a HS diploma/GED. Must be able to pass a drug screen, physical, and background check as listed above.

What to Expect Next:

Topeka Correctional conducts Correctional Officer I testing on the first Wednesday of the month. Testing begins at 8:30 AM

Wednesday, October 7, 2009, 8:30 am to 10:30 am

Wednesday, November 4, 2009, 8:30 am to 10:30 am

Wednesday, December 2, 2009, 8:30 am to 10:30 am

Wednesday June 3, 2009, 8:30 am to 10:30 am

Interview Process: TCF conducts performance based interviews administered by a panel of TCF employees. . If a candidate passes the CO I test with a score of 70% and above they will be scheduled for an interview.

After the testing and interviewing are complete there is a mandatory tour at 3:00 pm on the same day of testing. Reasonable Accommodation Policy Statement:
