Job Description:

K0220480 Advanced Epidemiologist
Works with and as an extension of a team of epidemiologists in the Bureau of Surveillance and Epidemiology. Serves as the primary epidemiologic contact for the Environmental Public Health Tracking Program (EPHT) within the KDHE Bureau of Environmental Health (BEH). Contributing member in the development of the environmental health tracking database in the state of Kansas. Responsible for planning, design, and evaluation of the EPHT surveillance system in collaboration with immediate supervisor, the EPHT Program Director, BEH Bureau Director and the members of the EPHT work team. Designs and directs studies and investigations to identify populations at high risk for health maladies as a result of detrimental exposures to environmental hazards. Collaborates with and disseminates findings to a broad range of public health stakeholders through EPHT program reports and presentations. Designs, manipulates, and utilizes appropriate databases and programs for the purpose of EPHT system analysis and program evaluation. Collaborates with other EPHT program staff for analysis and synthesis of data. Coordinates with all KDHE bureaus and all public health agencies and partners statewide to facilitate training and education for the collection, evaluation and reporting of data on environmental health related illness per state inclusion criteria. Develops relationships with out-of-state partners who receive patients identified as residents of Kansas to coordinate reporting of data to the Kansas EPHT reporting network. Develop, revise, maintain and distributes the KDHE Kansas EPHT Reporting Network Data Dictionary or other appropriate guidelines as needed. Assist staff responsible for collecting and reporting environmental health tracking data as needed. Coordinate and facilitate the EPHT Network user group meetings quarterly. Works with Program Director and State Epidemiologist to identify environmental health data issues and assists with the creation of needed support networks at state and federal levels. Works in collaboration with the EPHT database manager to ensure data are submitted in a timely manner to the state database using appropriate methodologies.

Minimum Requirements:
Advanced Epidemiologist: MPH/MS and independent work experience as an epidemiologist. (Note: Education and experience would determine placement at appropriate epidemiologist level and pay would be commensurate.) Associate Epidemiologist: BS and entry level knowledge of epidemiology. Epidemiologist: MPH/MS with emphasis in epidemiology and comprehensive knowledge of epidemiologic and biostatistical concepts.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Environmental Health or Health Science. Advanced training in epidemiology and experience in designing and implementing epidemiological studies. Experience in preparation of grants, cooperative agreements and other applications/proposals for funding. Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Proficiency in SQL, Proofreading, editing, attention to detail Experience in Public Health database management Advanced proficiency using SAS or SPSS Public speaking Grant Writing How your application will be evaluated:
