Email: hrservices@kda.ks.gov As a Professional Civil Engineer I, you will:
- Supervise a small team of engineers and other job classes responsible for reviewing Emergency Action Plans (EAPs), assessing the current hazard classification of dams located in urbanizing areas, and evaluating previously identified water bodies which might be unpermitted dams to determine if a permit is required.
- Plans, directs, and supervises the work of team members and reviews their work for compliance with regulatory standards.
- Provides necessary training and guidance to foster engineering expertise within the team.
- Sees that the team members complete work on time, in a professional manner, and conform to statutes, and rules, and regulations.
- Reviews permitted low hazard dams in counties with significant population growth to determine if their hazard classification has changed.
- Reviews EAPs for adequacy and compliance with regulations for EAPs.
- Contacts owners of high hazard dams who have not developed EAPs, providing deadlines by which EAPs must be submitted.
- Assists dam owners with the development of EAPs by providing advice and guidance regarding FEMA guidelines for EAPs.
- Reviews construction plans and other supporting information filed with the applications for permit to construct dams determined to require a permit.
- Assists in conducting EAP table top exercises.
- Prepares environmental review notices for projects to be permitted.
- Evaluates both the hydrological and environmental impacts of each project.
- Prepares and makes presentations to technical and lay audiences about dam safety issues.
Key Requirements:
- You must meet the minimum requirements for the Professional Civil Engineer I classification.

Minimum Qualifications:
To meet the minimum requirements for this position, you must have: Professional Engineering license recognized by the Kansas Board of Technical Professionals and four years of experience in engineering.
Required Proficiency Skill(s):
Good written and verbal communications skills are strongly preferred. Must be able to make effective use of the computer. Must be able to write engineering reports and perform engineering computations. Must be physically able to conduct field surveys which involve carrying survey equipment and traversing steep grades. Must be able to travel overnight.
