Job Description:

K0220565 Medical Investigator
This position is Open Until Filled and subject to close at any time. Position will be filled as soon as possible to perform work to meet grant requirements.
Serve as the main KDHE contact for the Rotavirus Vaccine Effectiveness Study and works closely with staff at the Children's Mercy Hospital (CMH) to accomplish study objectives and goals. Primary responsibilities include (1) managing, monitoring, and tracking the surveillance data gathered during the study; (2) developing and maintaining a project database on a secure website accessible to both agencies; (3) submitting and reporting surveillance data and project updates to management at KDHE, CMH, and CDC on a timely basis; and (4) collaborating with CMH and CDC to review, track, and monitor progress towards study objectives and performance measures and address any risks, delays, and problems. Ensure ongoing communication with CMH and CDC and regularly participate in project meetings and conference calls. Coordinate with CMH staff to complete specific study objectives including the collection of vaccination histories on all study enrollees and the timely collection of stool specimens from enrollees. Ensure proper and secure documentation of all data collected and submit the information to CMH project members. Provide status reports to CMH staff that summarize KDHE activities related to enrollee follow-up. Assist with case investigations and infectious disease outbreaks by conferring with local health departments and health care providers, reviewing reports of positive laboratory tests, and discussing diagnostic criteria and treatment regimens. Conduct interviews involving infected patients or parents of infected patients, locating and motivating exposed contacts to seek prompt medical evaluation and treatment, and submitting case reports as appropriate. Provide education and recommendations regarding control of disease outbreaks based on results of field epidemiologic investigations and State and Federal guidelines.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a health-related field.
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications: :
Appropriate KS license if employee is trained in a health-related field (e.g. Nursing).
Preferred Qualifications:
Three years of experience in disease control, epidemiology, nursing, medical investigation, and/or clinical public health. Knowledge of and ability to apply the use of computers for the manipulation, analysis, and management of epidemiological data. Ability to organize data/results for dissemination. Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain favorable relationships with colleagues and outside partners. Knowledge of incubation periods, periods of communicability, common modes of transmission, and public health significance of all communicable diseases. Knowledge of prevention and control measures. Knowledge of outbreak investigations. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access Proofreading, editing, attention to detail Knowledge of infectious diseases Knowledge of vaccine-preventable diseases Knowledge of prevention and control measures.
