Job Description:

The Department of Administration, Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO), provides for the centralized statewide accounting, payroll, financial reporting, agency auditing, and collection of delinquent accounts.  Additional information about our organization may be found at:  http://www.admin.ks.gov/offices/chief-financial-officer.

This position is assigned to the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO), Internal Controls Team.  The primary responsibilities of this Team are performing reviews, analysis, and monitoring of internal controls of existing and new central processes and related documentation and of agency processes and documentation in accordance with a defined monitoring plan.  This position provides assistance to internal and external customers providing data requests, SMART system data validations and reconciliations, lead schedules and statewide financial audit inquiries. 

Applicants must possess the ability to analyze and evaluate financial data and transactions, to determine possible findings and to make recommendations for corrective actions and to effectively communicate such findings and recommendations for corrective actions and to leadership, the impacted agency accounting and fiscal personnel and external auditors.  The successful candidate must demonstrate initiative, analytical skills, attention to detail and excellent time management skills.  Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Generally Accepted Auditing Standards, Governmental Accounting Standards Board pronouncements, governmental accounting, fiscal administration, and computerized accounting and/or programmatic software is preferred.

Sample Position Duties and Responsibilities:

Minimum Requirements:  Four years of experience in financial accounting, auditing, financial statement preparation, data analysis, or related experience.  

Preferred Requirements:  Degree from an accredited 4- year college/university with major course work in accounting, management, or business administration, is preferred.  20 semester hours in accounting, SMART training and experience in General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, nVision, and PS Query, also preferred.  

Starting hourly range $23.87 to $26.98 per hour depending on experience and skill level of applicant.  

This position is unclassified, non-exempt, full time with benefits.

KANSAS TAX CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE REQUIRED:  Each applicant applying for a State of Kansas job vacancy must obtain a valid and up to date Kansas Certificate of Tax Clearance by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue’s website.  A Tax Clearance is a comprehensive tax account review to determine and ensure that an individual’s account is compliant with all primary Kansas Tax Laws.  A Tax Clearance expires every 90 days.  All applicants, including current State employees, are responsible for submitting a valid and up to date certificate with all other application materials to the hiring agency.  This is in accordance with Executive Order 2004-03.  If you need assistance with the tax clearance, please contact 785-296-3199.
