The Kansas State Board of Healing Arts seeks a licensed Attorney to serve as Assistant General Counsel.  Under the direction of the General Counsel, the Assistant General Counsel will perform complex legal work, including research, preparing legal opinions and briefs, litigation in district and appellate courts, and a wide range of internal advice and counsel to the agency.  This position will be given independent latitude to complete work and will be expected to consistently exercise independent judgment.  Litigation experience and strong legal writing skills are preferred.  Experience with healthcare law, the healthcare sector, or administrative law is helpful but not required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited school of law.  Licensed to practice law in the State of Kansas and U.S. District Court.  A demonstrated track record of providing a positive, creative, problem-solving approach to challenging legal issues that focuses on providing a high-quality product.  Outstanding work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining confidentiality.  A minimum of three years active practice of law required. Familiarity with professional licensure laws and knowledge of Kansas administrative procedure law is helpful.  Considerable knowledge of state and federal laws, and judicial procedures is required.  Thorough knowledge of legal and medical research methods is helpful.   Candidates must have an active Kansas law license that is in good standing.

KANSAS TAX CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE REQUIRED:
Each applicant applying for a State of Kansas job vacancy must obtain a valid Kansas Certificate of Tax Clearance by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue's website at http://www.ksrevenue.org/taxclearance.html  A Tax Clearance is a comprehensive tax account review to determine and ensure that an individual's account is compliant with all primary Kansas Tax Laws.
