The Facilities Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for working with and supervising a crew of five to seven female offenders in constructing, finishing, or repairing sidewalks and curbs. This same group may also be assigned to mowing, trimming, spraying for weed control, picking up debris, and other landscaping activities needed in maintaining City of Topeka streets and neighborhoods.  The City of Topeka determines job sites in need of repair and placement.  The supervisor and offenders may be assigned to assist on other similar city infrastructure construction or repair projects.

This position provides on the job training and instruction to assigned offenders and ensures that work completed meets trade standards and specification established by the City of Topeka.  As a supervisor of offenders, this position provides for the security and accountability for the offenders at all times.  Ensures compliance with Kansas Department of Corrections and Topeka Correctional Facility rules, regulations, policies, procedures and established orders.  Responsible for the control of tools through maintaining daily inventories, storage, and tool identification.

Responsible for determining and requesting equipment and supplies for each job so that work projects are not disrupted due to lack of materials.

This position has a trades differential of $0.30 per hour in addition to the base pay.

Minimum Requirements Required:

Must meet all minimum qualifications and necessary special requirements for Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

Five years of experience in the mechanical or building trades.  Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. 

This position requires at the time of appointment the selected candidate must take and pass a drug screening test approved by the Division of Personnel Services unless promoting, transferring, or demoting from another designated position within the same agency.

This position requires at the time of appointment the selectec candidate must possess a valid driver’s license.
