Job Description:

The Kansas Veterans’ Home in Winfield is looking for a dependable individual to work in our Dietary Department as a Food Service Worker on our second shift.  This is a part-time (50% 20 hours per week position).  The hours for this position are 3:30 pm- 7:30 pm, four days a week.  Our residents are looking for people who are friendly; attend work on time as scheduled and who want to be a part of the well-being of our Veterans.

As a unclassified Food Service Worker, you will:

Serve Meals according to safety and sanitation guidelines, Maintain proper portion and temperature control, Prepare dining rooms for upcoming meal, Prepare beverages for upcoming meal, Remove waste from dining rooms, Arrange foods for serving, Clean tables, chairs, floors and other equipment, Wash walls and spot clean as needed, Follow all standard safety precautions.

 All employees (post-employment offer) at the Kansas Veterans Home are subject to the following regulation: K.A.R. 1-9-19(a) Drug screening test for certain employees requires (a) Any employee holding one of the following positions may be required to submit to a drug screening test in accordance with K.S.A. 75-4362, and amendments thereto, based upon reasonable suspicion of illegal drug use by that employee:….(5) any employee of a state veteran’s home operated by the Kansas Commission on Veteran Affairs, as described in K.S.A. 76-1901 et. seq., and K.S.A. 76-1951 et seq., and amendments thereto.

Minimum Requirements:  

Knowledge and ability to use and care for equipment, materials, utensils, Sufficient physical strength to stand the strain of working long hours and lift and carry heavy objects, General education with ability to read and understand and follow written and oral directions.

Performance Standards:
To be successful, the expectation is that a candidate will be able to competently perform the routine tasks of the position with limited supervision by the end of the probation period.

Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate

KANSAS TAX CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE REQUIRED: Each applicant applying for a State of Kansas job vacancy must obtain a valid Kansas Certificate of Tax Clearance by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue's website at http://www.ksrevenue.org/taxclearance.html  A Tax Clearance is a comprehensive tax account review to determine and ensure that an individual's account is compliant with all primary Kansas Tax Laws. A Tax Clearance expires every 90 days. As authorized by the 2018 Kansas Legislature, effective July 1, 2018, K.S.A. 75-4362 is amended to designate all positions with the Kansas Commission on Veterans’ Affairs office, to include both the Kansas Soldiers’ Home and Kansas Veterans’ Home as Safety Sensitive positions and subject to the drug testing program.  All applicants with a conditional offer of employment on or after July 1, 2018, shall be required to submit to a drug screening test.
