Job Description:

Position Type:  Unclassified (At-Will), Full-Time, Exempt, Benefits-Eligible

Position Location:   N.C.R.P.D.O.  715 N Washington Street, Junction City, KS 66441

Salary:  $54,325 - $58,000   Dependent on Experience

PRIMARY DUTIES: An Assistant Public Defender meets and represents adult clients accused of felonies to determine the appropriate course of action.  Responsibilities include: obtaining the police reports about the alleged crime, conducting an independent investigation into the allegations; accomplishing legal research, drafting, filing and arguing motions in court; negotiating plea agreements with prosecutors or preparing and presenting a defense at trial and, if there is a conviction, representing the client at sentencing. 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:  As assigned by the Chief Public Defender

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT(S):   Licensed to practice in Kansas, or eligible to practice with a Temporary License, covering the 8th & the 21st Judicial Districts

PREFERRED REQUIREMENT(S):  2+ years, experience practicing Criminal Law
