Job Description:

This position will remain posted until filled. This position is located in Riley County.

Job Summary:

This is professional accounting work in the maintenance, review and control of financial records and fiscal programs in a major state department.  The work involves assisting the Accountant V and Chief Fiscal Officer of the Kansas Department of Agriculture in the management of an extensive fiscal program as well as performing specialized accounting tasks such as cost accounting, encumbrances and revenue analysis.  Requires a thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

• This position performs all accounting functions for several programs within the Kansas Department of Agriculture.   Determines appropriate expenditure object codes and funding for all invoices and travel expense reports.  Enters detailed information into the agency’s accounting system and balances the various financial reports with SMART on a monthly basis.   Compiles and analyzes financial data necessary to develop the individual program budgets for the Department of Agriculture.  Provide budgetary information for the Legislative Research Department, Division of Budget, and the Division of Post Audit.  Review fund controls and program budgets to ensure positive balances.
• Prepares various receipt/expenditure reports on a regular basis in order to assist program managers in the financial analysis or individual programs.

Salary: $43,000 to $47,000/Year

Qualifications:

• Prefer Bachelor’s degree with a business or accounting related major;
• Must possess any combination of the follow to equal two years:
  • Experience in professional accounting/auditing
  • Education in accounting/auditing
• Knowledge of GAAP practices and standards;
• Knowledge of budget and procurement practices and procedures.
