Job Description:

The Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility currently has an Unclassified Facilities Maintenance Supervisor - HVAC position open in Maintenance. This position contributes to the physical upkeep of LCMHF through diagnosis, repair, and upkeep of systems delivering water, air, steam, and electrical systems with emphasis on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. At the journeyman level, participates in the building trades for the upkeep and repair of the agency. This position has a work schedule of Monday - Friday; 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Primary Duties Include:

Work includes installation of heating and air conditioning units. Repairs and maintains boiler and chiller units. Repairs or replaces circulating pumps in both hot and chill water loops. Makes needed repairs to all phases of the mechanical and pneumatic controls, motors, and operators. Maintains air handling systems as well as fan terminals. Ensures maintenance is completed on both chill water and hot water systems. Supervises and instructs offender detail to work in a safe manner.

Communicates with Physical Plant Supervisor Senior on a regular basis to discuss progress and performance and explore alternative solutions to problems.

Provides adequate training to ensure that offenders are able to perform the required tasks. Follows up to insure quality workmanship and identify deficiencies as well as strengths, in order to develop the skills of the trade.

Assures compliance with Life Safety and Occupational Safety and sanitation procedures by regularly inspecting area of responsibility and enforcing such rules. Ensures maintenance and control of tools and equipment in area of responsibility as directed by IMPP and General Orders.

Salary: $32,760.00 annually. This position is full-time, unclassified position with benefits. Pay typically begins at $15.75/hour depending on experience and/or skill level of applicant. This position has a trade differential of $0.30 per hour in addition to the base pay listed.

Minimum Requirements:

Five years of experience in the mechanical or building trades.

Agency Approved Substitution:

Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Necessary Special Requirements:

Must take and pass a drug test approved by the Division of Personnel Services prior to being appointed to this position, unless the incumbent is moving from one safety-sensitive position to another safety-sensitive position within the same agency performing substantially similar duties. Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.
