Job Description:

The Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman is seeking an individual to investigate complaints and mediate disputes on behalf of residents of long-term care facilities.  Supervises certified volunteer ombudsmen and provides case consultation to assure proper resolution of complaints.  Recruits and provides training to applicants for volunteer ombudsman positions.

Provides training to long-term care facility residents to empower them to resolve issues.  Provides presentations to local groups about the rights of long-term care facility residents.  This individual will work in Barton, Dickinson, Ellsworth, Harvey, Marion, McPherson, Ottawa, Reno, Rice and Saline counties and needs to live in the surrounding area. 

Minimum Qualifications:  Requires one year of experience in social/human services.  Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.  In-state travel required.  Must have a valid driver's license. 

As a condition of employment, you will be subject to a KBI criminal background check.

Preferred requirements:  Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Starting hourly rate:  $19.95 to $20.35 depending on qualifications.

This position is unclassified, full time with benefits.

KANSAS TAX CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE REQUIRED:  Each applicant applying for a State of Kansas job vacancy must obtain a valid and up to date Kansas Certificate of Tax Clearance by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue’s website.  A Tax Clearance is a comprehensive tax account review to determine and ensure that an individual’s account is compliant with all primary Kansas Tax Laws.  A Tax Clearance expires every 90 days.  All applicants, including current State employees, are responsible for submitting a valid and up to date certificate with all other application materials to the hiring agency.  This is in accordance with Executive Order 2004-03.  If you need assistance with the tax clearance, please contact 785-296-3199.
