PRINTING PRESS OPERATOR ASSISTANT3832N1 Pay Grade: "See Index" DEFINITION OF WORK Summary This is semi-skilled work operating lithographic presses in the Division of Printing. The work involves assisting skilled craft press operators in operating lithographic presses and related printing equipment. Assignments are received orally or in writing, and the work is performed under immediate supervision. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED Assists skilled press operators by appropriately placing forms on press, changing packing and adjusting presses for operation. Loads feeder and removes printed sheets. Assists press operators in mounting and registering plates. Checks periodically to see that the press is feeding and registering satisfactorily. Washes out gums printing plates for storage and reuse. Cleans and oils presses. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS Knowledge *Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, techniques, processes and equipment used in a pressroom. *Knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions in a pressroom. *Knowledge of mixing fountain solutions. Abilities *Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. *Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory relationships with other employees. *Necessary at Entry MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Two years of experience assisting pressman in operating sheet-fed and/or web offset presses and successful completion of a two year Printing Press Operator Assistant Apprenticeship.
