AGENCY RESPONSIBILITIES When a benefits eligible employee is hired, the KPERS retirement election is added. KPERS provides a defined benefit pension plan for KPERS eligible employees. Mandatory membership begins on the employee's date of hire in a benefits eligible position. The employee and the employer both contribute to KPERS. Enter the appropriate KPERS code, which is PT2 for most new employees hired on or after 7/1/2009. However, if the employee was a KPERS member prior to 7/1/2009 and has not withdrawn contributions, enter KPERS code P.
