Data Standards

Defining Selection Criteria for a Vacant Position

Description: When creating a new job requisition you must define selection criteria for the position in Job Requirements Table 1 and 2. There are 3 types of selection criteria:

1) Required selection criteria for a class (no points assigned): Established by the Director of the Division of Personnel Services.

2) Required selection criteria for a position (no points assigned): Contact the Division of Personnel Services for approval to specify criteria.

3) Preferred selection criteria for a position: You may indicate preferred selection criteria and assign points.

Dialog Box:

Enter only the Job Requisition Number ( not the Position Number or Job Code) in the dialog box that appears when accessing this panel since you only want to work with competencies and accomplishments for your job requisition.

Highest Education Level:

  • Defaults from established requirements.
  • Do not change code or add points
  • Defaults to on (X) if required for job class. Do not turn off required checkbox.
  • Inaccurate requirement
  • Changes minimum qualifications

Competencies

  • Defaults from requirements established for Job Code.
  • Optional use (Press F7 to insert codes for additional preferred competencies/skills)
Invalid competencies preferred for position

Points

  • Optional use to assign points to preferred competencies/skills
  • Assign points to at least one preferred competency/skill to ensure veterans’ preference.
  • Do not assign points for required competencies/skills
Incorrectly weighted competencies/skills

Required

  • Optional use
  • Defaults as required by job class
  • Contact DPS for approval to require a position specific competency/skill
Invalid minimum qualifications for position
